A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Jubilee Worship Center (3125 County Road 74) in St. Cloud. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to services at Jubilee. Rev. John Praetorius will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Richard Gryczkowski was born August 22, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Zygmund and Adeline (Sommerfeld) Gryczkowski. He was the only son joining two sisters. He graduated from Fridley High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. Richard spent his career working in sales. His outgoing personality suited him well and it could be said that he never met a stranger. On September 3, 1999, Richard was united in marriage with Sherri Weitgenant in St. Cloud. Richard enjoyed fishing and trying his luck at the casino. He was a member of the Waite Park Legion and volunteered at the St. Cloud VA. He was active in the VA’s Adult Health Daycare Program and hospice. Richard was instrumental in developing the VA’s No Veteran Dies Alone program which connected veterans facing end-of-life with volunteers to stay around the clock. It is fitting that Richard passed away accompanied by a volunteer from that very program. To know Richard was to love him and to be loved by him. He will be dearly missed.
Richard is survived by the wife he adored, Sherri Weitgenant of St. Cloud; children: Beth (Kris) Cox of Dallas, TX and Jason (Lisa) Gryczkowski of Grapevine, TX; grandchildren: Emmy, Peyton, Hayleigh, Taylor, Ally, Liz, and Logan; 2 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Yvonne Weitgenant; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Larry (Sandy), Sharon (Don), Dean, Becky (significant other: Drew Backlund); nieces and nephews: Cori (Amy), Nathan, Nicole (Wes) and Jessica; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zygmund and Adeline; and father-in-law, Glen Weitgenant.
Richard’s family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the St. Cloud VA building 49-2 staff and the St. Cloud Hospital Staff for their kind and compassionate care of Richard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
