Jim Nathe, age 75 of Foley, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 8, 2022 in Spring Hill, Florida after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 15, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church in Foley. Rev. Michael Wolfbauer will officiate and burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Foley Funeral Home and from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church on Saturday January 15th. Parish prayers will be at 6:00 PM followed by the Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Service with Dignity provided by the Foley Funeral Home.
James Albert Nathe was born December 15, 1946 in Paynesville, Minnesota to Albert and Margaret (Mies) Nathe. He graduated from Paynesville High School, class of 1964. After serving in the Army Reserves he went on to complete his degree in Elementary Education from St. Cloud State University and later achieved a masters degree. While attending SCSU, he met and later married Janet 'Jan' Holden who was also pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. The couple married on June 6, 1970 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, Minnesota and both began teaching in Foley schools. Jim enjoyed 35 years educating Foley students. He had a passion for science and nature which Jim used to inspire learning in the classroom. He volunteered with Boy Scouts; the St. John's church bazaar; Foley senior graduation parties; Knights of Columbus and the CROSS center. Jim loved gardening, hunting, fishing, cabin time and enjoyed a good ol' garage sale. Jim was a great conversationalist, loved to tell stories and making others laugh. He had many lifelong friends. Family and faith was of utmost importance to him and he always made them a priority. Jim was a life-long member of St. John's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, Foley and children: Tony (Anastasia) and their children; Clairissa, Maria, Avery and Brenden of Sauk Rapids; Amy and her children; James, John, Veronica and Joseph of Elk Grove, IL , and Nicole (Paul) Hydukovich and their children; Charlie, Andy and Will of St. Michael and a sister, Lorraine Putzke of Plymouth as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Everett, Kenneth and Dale.
