Tom Haley Sr., age 85, of Foley, MN, died Wednesday July 13, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN, surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. John's Catholic Church, Foley, MN. The Rev. Dan Walz will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Foley American Legion and Minnesota Patriot Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Foley Funeral Home in Foley and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home, Foley MN.
Tom Haley was born April 2, 1926 in Kelliher, Minnesota to Michael and Signa (Larson) Haley. He grew up in Blackduck, MN. He was a WW II Marine Veteran and was wounded in action in Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He married Marie Kaiser May 1, 1946 at St. John's Catholic Church in Foley. Tom had lived most of his married life in Foley. He worked as an appliance repairman. He also worked as a postal worker and bus driver. After his retirement he continued to be active in his many hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, shooting pool, cards, trips to the casino, golfing - but most of all, spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Foley American Legion Post #298.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, Foley; son and daughters, Thomas Jr. (Alma), Sauk Rapids, MN; Pat (Dale) Scott, St. Cloud, MN; Sandy (Boni) Karanja, Plymouth, MN; Susie (Duane) Strand, Foley;, MN; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Dick, Motley; and Pat David, Foley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael, grandson, Jason, brothers and sisters, James, Delphine, Dorie, Beatrice, Alice, Joan and Barb.
