Leonard Gabbert, age 99, of Foley, MN died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Foley Nursing Center, Foley, MN.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at Foley Funeral Home Chapel, Foley, MN. The Rev. Wes Macy will officiate. Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Lefor, North Dakota.

Friends may call from 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home, Foley, Minnesota.

Leonard Gabbert was born April 9, 1911 in Lefor, North Dakota to Herman and Martha (Wiegand) Gabbert. He married Caryl Sleight July, 1931 and she preceded him in death in 1973. He later married Viola Graham of Dickinson North Dakota in 1974. He had lived and farmed in Minnesota, North Dakota, North and South Carolina and most recently near Foley, MN. Prior to farming, Leonard held many jobs as a grocer, salesman and teacher. He raised Holstein Cattle and national champion Hampshire Hogs and Quarter Horses. Leonard will be remembered for his honorable character, tireless work ethic and love of his family.

He is survived by his sons and daughters; Roger (Alice), Mocksville, NC; Herman (Marlene), Foley, MN; Roberta Tryggestad, Irmo, SC; Caryl Len Gabbert, Waite Park, MN; step-children, Marlon Graham, Jon (Marlin) Graham, Margie (Fred) Philips, Dorine Gabbert and Anita (John) Melhorn, 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and many step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Viola, 1999, and infant son and daughter, stepson, Merle Graham Jr., son-in-law, Ken Tryggestad and brothers and sister, Alvin, Arlos, George and Rosalie Larson.
