Eunice Mathilda Herold passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the age of 90. She was staying at the Guttenberg Care Center for about 5 years. Eunice had a most generous and forgiving heart, was very gracious, that showed in her smile and demeanor. She embraced all good attributes of motherhood to her three sons, Jerry, Donald, and Robert Herold. Eunice is survived by her three sons, Jerry in Waldorf, Maryland; Don in Sunrise Beach, MO; and, Bob in Cape Coral, FL; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Gustav and two brothers, Harold Olson of Pearl River, LA; and, Albin Olson of Mesa, AZ.
Eunice Olson was raised by Olander and Lena Pearson of Estes Brook, Minnesota from birth through high school. She was preceded in death by her adopted brothers and sisters of Ester, Olga, Walter, Sophie, Nora, Glenn, and Kennith. Eunice was carried at birth by a small pillow, and was nursed by various gracious mothers, since her mother died at her birth. Lena was a wonderful woman, and spent many hours on the sewing machine, making clothes for her. The older sons of Eunice spent many weekends visiting her adopted family near Estes Brook, MN, looking at pictures through a viewmaster, playing finger pool, eating lots of chicken, playing at the chicken coop and the cow barn at Frank and Ester East, and at Sophie's farm.
Eunice Olson's father was John Olson, who came from Norway. Her mother was Ruth Seagrend. John and Ruth lived near Estes Brook, Minnesota.
Eunice worked for a time after high school in a factory as a secretary, in Rockford, IL. She was later called to St. Cloud, Minnesota by her father to care for him.
She graduated from Foley High School, and could type a fast pace of 99 wpm.
Eunice worked for a few years at Fingerhut Mfg in St. Cloud, a few years at Vision Ease eyeglass company, grinding lenses, and cleaned the upstairs offices of Dan Marsh Drug Store in St. Cloud. She frequently took the two older children along to help cleaning at Dan Marsh, so that she could keep a steady eye on them, and a loving heart with them.
Eunice married Gustav Herold, a plumber and a veteran's aid at St. Cloud Veteran's Hospital. She worked in Franklin factory during WWII, making airplane parts, and then refrigerators after WWII. She met Gus at the parking lot of Franklin's, where Gus owned the lot. Most of her married years were in St. Cloud, MN. The last 20 years were spent in retirement with Gus, in Johnson City, Texas. Gus passed away in June 4th, 2004.
Eunice went to bible school and church at Estes Brook Free Church, Minnesota and at Maywood Convenant Church, near Estes Brook. Eunice and Gus took there sons to many, many 4th of July huge picnics at Estes Brook Free Church. She was confirmed at Estes Brook Free Church, that still has a photo of mom's confirmation class on the wall.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Eunice Herold will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Foley Funeral Home, Foley, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home and burial will be in the Maywood Covenant Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Foley Funeral Home.
