Edward 'Eddie' Herman Heintze was born on November 1, 1937, in Popple Creek to William and Margaret (Nielson) Heintze. He graduated from Foley High School and began his working career with Corrigan Construction. While working at Corrigan Construction, Eddie was drafted into the United States Army where he served for six years—two years of active duty and four years in the Army Reserve. After completing his military service, Eddie worked for more than 35 years at Granite City Ready Mix before retiring. 

On August 27, 1960, Eddie married the love of his life, Carolyn Hodel, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Together, Eddie and Carolyn shared 65 years of marriage, building a life and raising their family in Foley. Their greatest joy was their family.

 In his younger years, Eddie enjoyed playing football and baseball. He had a lifelong passion for deer hunting and fishing. He took great pride in his home and yard—his lawn was always looking its best, and he seemed to be the first one to have his driveway plowed after a Minnesota snowstorm. He was a hardworking man who took pride in doing things well. 

Some of his best times were made with his children. He could often be found playing a game of H-O-R-S-E or P-I-G with his kids, taking them ice-skating, or bringing them along to watch hockey games. These simple moments became treasured memories that his family will carry with them forever. Later in life, some of his favorite times were spent taking car rides with Carrie, exploring wherever the road took them. Above all, Eddie was devoted to his family and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his seven children, Kristine Heintze (Mike Wagner) of Royalton, Sandra Heintze (Corey Tretter) of Pierz, Brenda (Kurt) Simonsmeier of Foley, Kathy (Harlan) Eckholm of Sauk Rapids, Susan (Mitchel) Janorschke of Foley, Michael (Stephanie) Heintze of Foley, and Manda (Philip) Olson of Edina; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Pearl Dohrmann of St. Cloud; and sisters-in-law, Debbie (Greg) Carter of Arizona and Diane Hodel of Foley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his parents, William and Margaret Heintze; and his brother, John. Eddie will be deeply missed by his family and friends and lovingly remembered for the life he shared with those around him.
