Ed Doubek, age 78, of Foley, MN, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at his home after a brief battle with cancer.

There will be no services. Private Inturment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Arrangemenst by the Foley Funeral Home, Foley, MN.

Edward Doubek was born December 31, 1932 in St. Cloud, MN to John and Anna (Hromatka) Doubek. He married Joan Curtis on June 25, 1955 in Winthrop, Maine. The couple has lived in Foley since 1957. He was a US Air Force Veteran serving form 1950-1953. Ed worked as a police officer for the city of Foley and later worked as director of the street and water department for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Foley American Legion, Post #298 where he was past Post Commander. Ed was also a volunteer fireman for over 22 years and served as Fire Chief for 4 years for the city of Foley. Ed enjoyed his workshop, gardening, especially his clematis, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and having coffee every morning with the guys at Brenny Oil Co. A special thank you to Heartland Hospice, Barb Garrison (he called you his #1 girl), Kevin Stiles, Dr. Lemma and nurse Amy Stolt at Coborn Cancer Center and Dr. Liveringhouse and the house nurse at the St. Cloud Hospital. Memorials are preferred in-lieu of flowers.

He is survived by his wife Joan, Foley, MN; daughters; Terri (Dennis) Stroeing, Foley, MN; Mary (Bruce) Linn, Foley, MN, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, twin brother, Albert, Albert Lea, MN, brother, Joe (Leila), Brunswick, ME, sisters, Kathy (Phill) Rogers, Albert Lea, MN; Patricia Svihel (George Holasek), Foley, MN and step sister-in-law, Anne Hromatka, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and Frank, sisters-in-law, Maxine Doubek and Iradell Doubek, step brothers, Frank Hromatka, Henry Hromatka, step sister-in-law, Gertrude Hromatka, Mabel Pooch and Frances Nesseth
