Cindy Zillmer, age 57, of Foley, died Friday May 31, 2013.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Foley High School Gymnasium, Foley. The Rev. Timothy Wittwer will officiate. Private Burial will be in the Ronneby Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 Wednesday at the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in Foley and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Foley High School. There will be a prayer service at 7 pm Wednesday evening. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home.
Cynthia Zillmer was born October 5, 1955 in Robbinsdale, MN to Richard and Marlene (Dietz) Staples. She married Ron Zillmer on June 12, 1982 at Calvary Luthern Church, Mora, MN. Cindy graduated from Cooper High School in 1973 and received a BA in Physical Education and Special Education from Mankato State University while being a member of the Varsity swim team. Cindy was employed by the Braham School District from 1978-1981, teaching special education in the middle school and head-coaching gymnastics and softball. In 1981, Cindy took a position as a high school special-ed teacher at Arlington-Green Isle School District. Here she coached volleyball, basketball and softball. Finally, in the fall of 1983, she took a position as a high school special-ed teacher in the Milaca School District, while residing in Foley. During her time at Milaca she coached swimming and softball and later coached swimming in Foley. Since her time in Foley, Cindy has been an avid member of the Foley Lioness and Lions Club. During this time she loved all her days spent in the hamburger stand at Foley Fun Days. Her outstanding commitment was recognized with the highest form of recognition bestowed upon a Lion member, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. While her children were growing up she enjoyed teaching swimming lessons, camping, golfing, traveling and playing sofball. Later in life she loved the opportunity to return to coaching at Foley, playing BINGO, fishing at the cabin in Brainerd and spending every opportunity with family.
In-lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cindy Zillmer Memorial Scholarship Fund..
She is survived by her husband, Ron, Foley; son and daughters; Zac, Rachel ( fiancé, Michael Land) and Kaitlyn; step-children, Greg (fiancé, Salina Lam) of San Carlos, CA; Kristi (Brandon) Hansen, Tulsa, OK and grandchildren, Mia, Macy, Max, Miles Hansen and brother, Jeff Staples of Maple Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Marlene.
