Chester Helmin, age 88, of Foley, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the VA Medical Center, St. Cloud.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman. The Rev. Leo Moenkedick will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Foley American Legion, Post #298.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Church in Gilman. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home.
Chester Helmin was born November 22, 1924 in Alberta Twp, Benton Co., to Adam J. and Selma C. (Imbiorski) Helmin. Chester lived most all of his life in Alberta Township, Benton Co. He farmed his entire life and worked construction for many years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient for actions in combat and being wounded in the South Pacific. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Chester was a member of the Foley American Legion and the Gilman VFW and SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Peter, Foley; Josephine Kvittem, Rochester; Al (Renee), Rice; Imelda Lieser, Paynesville; Sylvester (Jean), Foley; Ann Sluss, Circle Pines and Frank (Elaine) of Foley and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Bernadette Helmin, Odelia Helmin, Colette Korneck and 2 infant sisters.
