Carol Vaillancourt was born July 2, 1918 in Granite Ledge Twp., Benton Co., MN to Paul and Lucy (Smekofske) Leason. She married LaVerne Vaillancourt June 5, 1939. Carol was a homemaker, living in Foley. Mother loved telling stories of how she grew up on the family farm north of Ronneby; how she helped her Father in the fields and getting the cows home so they could be milked. Mother always grew a big vegetable garden along with beautiful flower beds. Mother was a prankster along with her sisters - you never knew what they were going to come up with at a family function. She loved cooking, sewing and playing cards. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Lana (Delroy) Kampa, Foley, MN; Richard (Mary), Becker, MN; Judy (Randy) Fernholz, Rice, MN; Robert (Janel), Rice, MN; 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; sister, Dode McNelis, Watertown, SD; and brother, Gary (Bonnie Leason, Blackduck, MN as well as many nieces, nephews and n'laws that loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern in 1963, children, Bruce and Carol in 1950, Roger in 1957 and Randy in 1993; also long time companion, John Chapp in 2009, parents, brother, Henry and sisters, Frances O'Neil, Leona Jindra and Adeline Stevens.
We would like to thank the staff and residents of Carefree Living and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they have given Mother. What an honor it is to have gotten to know all of you. She will be missed by all.
