Alan Cross - 84 Foley

January 17, 1932-November 30, 2016

Alan Cross, age 84, of Foley, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Foley Nursing Center.

Memorial Services will be 12 PM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Henry's Event Center, Foley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service, Saturday at Henry's Event Center.  Service with Dignity provided by the Foley Funeral Home.

Alan Cross was born January 17, 1932 in Butler County, Iowa to Victor and Olga (Holmgren) Cross.  He married Eunice Latterell on February 13, 1952 at St. John's Catholic Church, Foley.  He graduated from Foley High School in 1950 and attended Macalester College before joining the US Navy.  He served 4 years in the Navy at Lakehurst, NJ in the Blimp Service patrolling the coast line during the Korean War. Alan was an entrepreneur, starting the Maywood Forge Company making Civil War cannon replicas and Civil War action figures.  He also worked for Dezurik in Sartell as a design engineer for over 30 years; Hills MaCanna in Chicago and Doering Manufacturing in Clear Lake, MN also as a design engineer.  Alan was a man of  many interests, including being an avid gun collector; photographer; master gardener and an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also enjoyed cooking, reading and doing crossword puzzles and liked to fly kites.  He was a Life Member of the NRA; Toastmaster Club of St. Cloud, held a pilots license and was a Ham Radio operator.

He is survived by his wife,  Eunice, Foley; sons and daughters; Carol Cross-Volp (Larry Koeneke), Blaine; Michael (Aileen), Popple Creek; Mari (Mark) Sikorski, Eden Prairie; Elizabeth 'Betsy' (Scott) Kaercher, Blaine; Jon (Linda), St. Augusta; Catherine (Ken) Garmany, Ladera Ranch, CA, grandchildren and their spouses; Robert (Megan) Volp, Christine (Tony) Volp-Hodgkins, Marci Koeneke, Richard (Sienna) Volp, Kevin Koeneke, Majade Cross, Katie (Steve) Renner-Welle, Mellissa  (Dean) Lunderberg, Melissa (Dave Leyk) Kaercher, Nick Reimann, Amanda (Sean) Kowalzek, Amy Cross, Hugh Garmany, Mitchell Garmany and 17 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brothers; Virginia Engen, Malcolm and  Versal.  Two son-in-laws Nicholas Watercott and Michael Reimann and Granddaughter Dana Koeneke.
