Aloysius 'Al' Seppelt, age 89, of Gilman, MN, died Friday, October 21, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman. The Rev. Leo Moenkedick will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 Thursday at the Foley Funeral Home in Foley, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Father Pierz 4th Degree of Knight's of Columbus will stand guard from 5 to 8 and Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home, Foley, MN.
Aloysius Seppelt was born September 22, 1922 in Alberta Township, Benton County, MN to Robert and Anna (Leason) Seppelt. He married Grace Sadowski on October 10, 1949 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Brennyville, MN. He was first and foremost a dairy farmer. He loved to farm and was happy to see his son continue to farm the land that has been in his family for over 150 years. He also dedicated much of his time to community service. He was a 4th Degree member of the Father Pierz Council of the Knight's of Columbus and an active member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Parish in Gilman. He was honored to serve as Benton County Commissioner for 18 years. He sat on the Benton County Telephone Co-Op Board of Directors for 27 years, the Foley School Board for 6 years and was a member of the Rice Sportsman Club for many years. While his greatest love was farming, his other true joy was singing in the church choir.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, Gilman, MN, sons and daughters; Arlan (Debbie), Foley, MN; Glenn (Chris), Foley, MN; Marlene (Bill) Haider, Sauk Rapids, MN; Jo Ann Seppelt, Philadelphia, PA; Wayne (Deb), Howard Lake, MN; Patty Gjelhaug, Hastings, MN, brother, Bob, Dayton, OH; 12 grandchildren; Kelly, Matthew, Tracy, Elizabeth, Kristin, Eric, Bryant, Josh, Brandon, Emily, Abbie and Katie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters; Sr. Robert Seppelt, OSB; Edward, Emelda Svihel, Irene Shasky, Rita Anderson and Clarence.
