Luella Schmitz, age 90, of Foley died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Foley Nursing Center.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 24, 2017 at St. John's Catholic Church, Foley. The Rev. Michael Wolfbauer will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.  Friends may call from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Foley Funeral Home in Foley and 1 hour prior to services Friday at the church.  
   Luella Pauline (Wilke) Schmitz was born July 22, 1926 in Granite Ledge Township the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Smekofske) Wilke.  On September 12, 1944, she was united in marriage with Francis Schmitz at St. Louis Catholic Church in Foreston.  The couple made their home farming near Gilman and were blessed with three children.  Luella loved flower gardening, watching birds and caring for dogs. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.   
   Luella is survived by her daughter, Karen Nelson of Allegan, MI; sons:  Elroy (Sharon) of Andover and Alan of Foley;  grandchildren:  Brent Nelson of Erie, MI and Wendy Tolsma of Hamilton, MI; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Holewa of MS; as well as other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Donald Wilke.
